APRIL POPKO: City of Contrasts
May 17th-June 19th, 2023 Tower Park Praha— Žižkov Tower Mahlerovy sady 1, Praha 3, 13000 Popko's recent visit to New York City inspired her to create a new collection of paintings. In noticing a high contrast within the city vibe, her observations are reflected in this latest work. |
One capsule in the observatory has a colorful, vibrant flavor which awakens the senses and, so-to-speak, "paints" a picture New York City. In those paintings you can almost hear the hustle bustle of the city - the hailing of a taxi, the drilling of the construction workers, and chaos. It is filled with some of New York's most iconic representations such as the American Flag, an American fire hydrant, Coney Island Gumball machine, the Statue of Liberty, Lanterns crisscrossing Chinatown, Park Avenue, The Chrysler Building, and Popko's spin on the Big Apple.
In contrast, another capsule displays artwork with upscale, luxury paintings of gold and silver metallics that reflect New York's high-end neighborhoods, Wall Street, skylines, skyscrapers, and imagery from the Manhattan, NoHo, Hudson Yards, Tribeca, Central Park South, and Nolita areas.
