American artist, April Popko, has lived in Prague since 2003. Born in Massachusetts, she comes from a large, multi-generational family of artists and has since extended her family across the ocean with her Czech husband and three children.
Originally a certified teacher, Popko reinvented herself to express what she needed the outside, “foreign” world to understand. As an expat and artist, painting became the medium in which she could build bridges between the gaps which she thought had existed, linking countries, communities, genders, lifestyles, cultures, languages and even the space between heaven and earth.
Popko is driven to connect and inspire people to live intentionally and to full-heartedly encourage others to share their gifts with the world.
Using the inspiration she gains from her travels, her artwork communicates energetically. Many have felt this abundant energy through her vibrant, texturized abstractions often inspired by her experiences, especially from her time in Provincetown, home to the oldest, continuous art colony in the U.S.
Exhibiting globally, Popko’s work is extensive. With solo shows in the United States, Czech Republic, Greece, Italy, Morocco, Portugal (and beyond), and group shows in Norway, Canary Islands, Singapore, South Korea, Germany, Dubai, Switzerland, France and Grenada (and more), Popko continues to use her role as an artist, to inspire and energize others. As a featured artist in local and international publications and magazines, Popko also uses her art to support charities and organizations and to promote communication. Through painting, she aims to transfer positivity and light to the world.
